Jon Goulder Studio
Jon Goulder continues a four-generation legacy of producing refined, thoughtfully made furniture. Each piece is handcrafted using the highest quality materials, created with longevity in mind and intended to be lived with and passed down through generations.
Working as a designer-maker, Jon is widely recognised for his mastery of craft and his considered approach to design. His practice spans one-off commissions, small-run furniture editions and complete interior environments, allowing projects to be shaped to suit a wide range of contexts and collaborators.
The studio regularly works alongside an established network of specialist craftspeople, supporting projects from private commissions through to large-scale commercial outcomes. Alongside his independent practice, Jon held the role of Senior Designer at Snøhetta Architects from 2018 to 2024, contributing to complex, multidisciplinary projects both locally and internationally.
Growing up in Bowral, NSW, as a fourth-generation furniture maker, Jon’s connection to furniture began early. His formative years as a pupil of George Ingham, Inaugural Head of the Wood Workshop at the ANU School of Art, shaped a practice grounded in technical rigour, material exploration and artistic innovation.
Defined by a balance between craft and design, Goulder’s work is distinguished by his refined processes in leather, textiles and wood. Careful attention to proportion, detail and line results in pieces that feel both timeless and contemporary.
Committed to the full designer-maker process of developing, testing and producing his work, Jon’s one-off and limited-edition pieces are represented in Australia, America and Europe, and have been featured in major exhibitions and publications worldwide.
His work has received multiple design awards and is held in the permanent collections of Australian State and National Museums and Art Galleries, including the National Gallery of Australia..
